The Human Touch in an AI-Driven World

AI is everywhere in the news. There’s a lot of talk about how it might replace jobs. It is a valid concern and I believe that real human relationships, connection  will  always ensure people have jobs.  A few years back, automation was hailed as the next big thing to transform jobs. Now, AI is accelerating those changes and causing people to think hard about what the future holds.

As AI advances, there’s a divide that we can’t ignore—access. Not everyone has the same access to the internet or to the technology needed to thrive in an AI-enhanced world. Without ensuring equitable access and ongoing training, are we creating a world where some are set up to succeed while others fall further behind? How do we avoid creating a society of the Eloi and Morlocks, where technology widens the gap instead of bridging it?

Just this past Monday, my local paper ran a story with the headline: “Silicon Valley is too powerful, has lost its way: ‘Like we are playing god’.” According to a recent poll by the Bay Area News Group and Joint Venture Silicon Valley, people are wary of AI, with 75% worried about the growing divide between tech and non-tech workers. While 40% of respondents felt that the benefits of AI are spread across the Bay Area, there is an underlying skepticism about its impact on everyday lives.

In an AI-driven world, digital literacy and equity are more important than ever. I hope that ongoing efforts to make technology accessible to all will bridge these gaps and bring us together, fostering a future where technology strengthens our connections, not divides us.
